This collage represents the three Marys who were present at the crucifixtion, Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mary Magdelane ,and Mary, Mother of James.  Each of their faces is split and mended with gold leaf in a style reminicent of the Japanese technique for mending broken pottery called kintsugi.  The work is done with hand painted paper.
